Dr. Paul M. Feorino, Ph.D. is the acting Clinical Lab Director, Executive Vice President and Corporate Financial Officer for Research Think Tank. He was a leading infectious disease virologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for 34 years and has an extensive publication history covering DNA and RNA viruses as well as cancer causing agents. Among his numerous accomplishments, Dr. Feorino is historically credited as the scientist responsible for the first practical cultivation method for the propagation of HIV-1 in human peripheral blood molonuclear cells (PBMC). He was the first to capture an image of active replication of HIV-1 particles budding from white blood cells using electron microscopy. Dr. Feorino co-authored on the first published journal to describe the use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to amplify HIV-1 RNA, which is the basis of all molecular based assays used today in this field. He was recognized as the first to identify and isolate the Human Herpes Virus 6 variant B. Dr. Feorino continued as acting clinical laboratory director for Bayer Diagnostics during transition and post acquisition of Visible Genetics, Inc.
